Sakleshpur is the short-haul Western Ghats weekend for Bangalore — 220 km via Hassan on a straightforward four-hour run, with coffee and cardamom estates, the Bisle Ghat viewpoint and the Manjarabad star fort within easy reach.

It suits groups who want ghat scenery without the distance of Coorg or Chikmagalur. The internal estate roads are narrow and turn slippery in the monsoon, so we run the 10+1 SWB by preference here and time the estate drives for the morning.

Force Urbania Rental for the Bangalore to Sakleshpur Route

The internal estate roads are the reason we favour the 10+1 SWB for this Urbania rental. They are narrow and turn genuinely slippery in the monsoon, when the route is at its most beautiful and its most restricted — your driver will decline particular estate tracks in heavy rain, and that judgement stands. For the main road circuit any Force Urbania hire variant is fine. Estate stays generally have adequate van parking, but confirm when booking accommodation.

About Sakleshpur

Sakleshpur sits in the Western Ghats at around 950 metres, in coffee, cardamom and pepper country on the old road from Bangalore to Mangalore. The Manjarabad fort above the town was built by Tipu Sultan on a perfect eight-pointed star plan, invisible from the ground and obvious from the air. Bisle Ghat, about 40 km out, gives one of the widest viewpoints in the Ghats, looking across three mountain ranges. The Hoysala temples at Belur and Halebidu lie within easy reach on the return.

Know Before You Ride

Bangalore to Sakleshpur Tour Package — Questions

It is the most beautiful time and also the most restricted. Estate roads get slippery and some viewpoints including parts of Bisle Ghat become risky. We still run the route in monsoon but the driver will decline particular estate tracks in heavy rain, and that judgement call stands.

We can drop and collect at the trailhead points around Donigal and Yedakumeri. Note the railway trek itself is on active track and its legal status varies — that is a decision for your group, and our involvement is limited to the road transfer.

It is closer, cheaper and quieter, with similar estate scenery. Coorg has far more organised sightseeing, better food and more accommodation choice. Sakleshpur suits groups who mainly want an estate stay and ghat drives rather than a sightseeing checklist.
