Yercaud is the practical weekend hill station for Chennai groups who cannot spare four days for Ooty or Kodaikanal. At 360 km it is a comfortable six-and-a-half-hour run down NH48 to Salem, followed by a twenty-hairpin climb into the Shevaroy Hills that takes under an hour.

The hill itself is compact — the lake, Pagoda Point, Lady's Seat and the botanical gardens all sit within a fifteen-kilometre radius, which means the vehicle stays useful all weekend rather than being parked. Coffee and orange plantations line most of the internal roads, and the whole circuit is easy on any Urbania variant.

Force Urbania Rental for the Chennai to Yercaud Route

Yercaud is the one hill station where every variant in our Force Urbania rental fleet works equally well. The Shevaroy ghat has twenty hairpins but they are wide and well-graded, and the climb is only about twenty kilometres — so the 16+1 LWB runs it as comfortably as the SWB. That makes this the easiest large-group Urbania hire in Tamil Nadu. Because the hill's attractions sit within a fifteen-kilometre radius, the van stays genuinely useful all weekend rather than parked at the hotel.

About Yercaud

Yercaud is the Shevaroy hills' only real hill station, at around 1,500 metres above Salem, and it is markedly less developed than its Tamil Nadu neighbours. The lake sits at the centre of the small town, with Pagoda Point on the eastern edge for sunrise and Lady's Seat on the western for sunset over the Salem plains. Coffee, orange and pepper plantations line most of the internal roads, and the Servarayan temple at the highest point on the hill is reached through a narrow rock cleft.

Know Before You Ride

Chennai to Yercaud Tour Package — Questions

No. The Shevaroy ghat has twenty hairpins but they are wide and well-graded compared with Kodaikanal or Ooty, and the climb is only about 20 km. All four Urbania variants including the 16+1 LWB run this route regularly.

Yes. Yercaud's attractions sit in a tight radius and a full day on the hill covers the lake, both viewpoints, the botanical garden and a plantation drive. Groups wanting to add Hogenakkal Falls on the return leg should budget a third night.

Yes, and it is a popular extension. Hogenakkal is about 110 km from Yercaud via Dharmapuri and fits naturally into the return leg to Chennai. It adds roughly 150 km to the package, which the coordinator will build into your quote.
