Rameshwaram, 170 km east on an island reached by the Pamban bridge, holds the Ramanathaswamy temple and the longest temple corridor in India. At the island's tip lies Dhanushkodi, a town destroyed by the 1964 cyclone and left as ruins on a sandspit running toward Sri Lanka.
